Your opportunity

HBF Legal is a key business partner to the CEO, Executive, Senior Management Team and each of their respective teams; they work on almost every major project across HBF, providing essential support to our rapidly expanding business.

The team provides legal expertise and offers guidance and strategic advice throughout the business, as well as identifying and managing legal risk on behalf of HBF.  They are responsible for protecting the business and brand by ensuring that as an organisation, HBF’s appetite for commercial and legal risk-taking is balanced having regard to legal, prudential and regulatory obligations.

Reporting to the Chief Legal Counsel, this full-time role covers a broad portfolio of work where you will be given the responsibility of managing a portfolio of legal work while collaborating closely with other members of the team. Your work will include:

  • Providing advice on regulatory matters including private health insurance law, consumer law and privacy law;
  • Providing advice and assistance on corporate transactions including M&A and alliance arrangements;
  • Providing general contract law advice and reviewing and negotiating key contracts and agreements; and
  • Assisting with the development of precedents, training, processes and procedures.

Your skills 

This position is dynamic and demanding but is an opportunity to work with an award-winning team during a time of transformation and strategic growth at HBF, and HBF Legal has a “birds eye view” of it all.  Work experience will include amongst other things:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law or equivalent is essential;
  • Significant demonstrated experience working within private practice at a reputable law firm, or a high performing in-house legal function;
  • Experience in regulatory matters, private health insurance, consumer and privacy law will be highly regarded;
  • Key to your success will be your ability to influence stakeholders whilst remaining nimble and resilient; and 
  • Strong organisational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders at once and follow through and meet deadlines.
