The Opportunity

The HBF Architecture team currently have a position for a highly technical Solution Architect to assist with designing technical solutions for upcoming business initiatives. As a Solution Architect at HBF, you'll play a pivotal role in aligning project solution architectures with our broader business objectives and strategic architectures. Designing both high level and detailed technical design documents for consumption by the development teams that will realise the solution.

You'll ensure that our IT solutions not only meet immediate needs but also consider factors like architecture roadmaps, total cost of ownership, reusability, and information security. With a focus on both on-premise and cloud hosting infrastructure for HBF systems, you'll contribute significantly to our success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, project managers, and business analysts to understand project goals, requirements, and constraints.
  • Provide input to project briefs, ensuring alignment with broader objectives, risks, and implications.
  • Identify and assess feasible solution options, considering cost of ownership, architectural guidelines, and related initiatives.
  • Work with vendors to explore potential solution options or components.
  • Take accountability for overall solution design, considering both functional and non-functional requirements. The designs range from a high-level solution overview that are presented to HBF’s architectural review group, to highly technical low level designs detailing API integrations, security considerations and infrastructure and networking concerns.
  • Lead the development of preferred architectural options, ensuring alignment with strategic roadmaps.
  • On project completion, conduct a review with the development teams to ensure the as-built solution aligns with the original solution design.
  • Provide technology thought leadership, mentoring, and guidance to project team members.
  • Ensure solution architecture activities adhere to HBF Enterprise Architecture methodologies and standards.

About You

The ideal candidate for this technical Solution Architect position at HBF is a seasoned professional with a passion for leveraging technology to drive business outcomes. They should have a very strong technical background with software development experience or hands-on infrastructure and networking.

They possess a deep understanding of complex business systems and have a proven track record of delivering effective solution designs. With at least 5 years of experience in a technical role, they excel in collaborating with diverse stakeholders, from business leaders to project and development teams, to ensure alignment with strategic objectives. Their expertise extends to AWS cloud services, traditional data centre architectures, and modern design patterns, enabling them to craft innovative and sustainable solutions. They are proactive in promoting architectural best practices, mentoring team members, and contributing to the continuous improvement of IT services. With strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, they thrive in a dynamic environment where consensus-building and solution-oriented approaches are paramount. More specifically you will be:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the technical design and development of complex business systems.
  • Extensive experience with AWS cloud services and traditional data centre infrastructure architectures.
  • Proven knowledge of design patterns, component-based architecture, and modern data pipelines.
  • Experience with AWS cloud platforms and services in hybrid typologies.
  • Strong communication skills and experience facilitating workshops across IT and business stakeholders.
  • Experience in Agile software development methodologies.
