Reporting to the General Manager, Risk and sitting within the Governance & Risk Division, the Head of Risk Advisory will lead a team of risk professionals and work closely with other specialist risk teams to continue to uplift HBF’s risk management maturity and drive continuous improvement across the Three Lines of Accountability. As the Head of Risk Advisory, you'll lead the Line 2 Risk Advisory function while guiding HBF through an evolving regulatory landscape with confidence, clarity and assurance.

What you will do Lead HBF’s operational risk oversight: Provide independent Line 2 challenge and strategic guidance across operational risk frameworks, in alignment to APRA Prudential Standards including CPS 220, CPS 230 and CPS 234 while uplifting maturity.
Elevate risk culture and organisational capability: Conduct independent risk maturity assessments, identify gaps, design training and uplift programs, and influence leaders across all three lines of accountability to embed stronger practices, behaviours and decision‑making.
Stay ahead of emerging risks: Monitor the external environment, regulatory movements, industry trends and competitor activity, translating insights into early warning indicators, thematic reviews and advice that helps HBF anticipate and respond to change.
Shape the integrated assurance agenda: Working with Line 1, Line 2 Risk and Compliance Teams and Line 3 to inform the design and delivery of the Line 2 assurance program that reviews the effectiveness of the control environment.
Guide risk in major change and strategy execution: Oversee independent risk assessments for major programs and initiatives, supporting HBF 30 priorities are delivered safely, with sound governance, appropriate controls and effective risk mitigation.
Develop and lead a high‑performing risk team: Lead a small team of experienced Line 2 risk professionals, setting clear expectations, building capability, and creating a culture of high standards, influence and delivery across the risk advisory function.
About you You’re an experienced and influential risk leader who is comfortable navigating ambiguity, engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing decisions that span across an organisation.
You thrive in complex environments, think several steps ahead, and enjoy leading meaningful change. Using you're a strong understanding of APRA‑regulated environments you can translate complex risk concepts into meaningful insights that enable better business outcomes. You’ll also bring:
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field
Extensive experience in operational and Line 2 risk roles within financial services
Understanding of APRA prudential standards and regulatory requirements for APRA-regulated entities (including CPS 220, CPS 230, CPS 234)
Demonstrated capability in advising senior leaders, shaping governance and uplifting risk culture and confidence engaging with Executive and Board‑level forums and governance committees
A high level of analytical skill and attention to detail
Familiarity with GRC platforms and risk management tools
