About the Role
As a Data Engineer at HBF, you’ll play a key role in building and optimising the data pipelines, models and assets that power analytics, insights and decision‑making across the organisation. Working within our cloud‑first data ecosystem, you’ll collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure and high‑quality data solutions that support HBF’s growth and digital transformation.
In this role, you will:
- Build, maintain and optimise scalable data pipelines and integrations using AWS, SQL and modern data engineering tools.
- Develop robust data models and database designs to support analytics, reporting and operational data needs.
- Assemble and prepare complex data sets from diverse sources to meet functional and non‑functional requirements.
- Design and implement process improvements such as automation, pipeline optimisation and infrastructure enhancements.
- Support stakeholders and cross‑functional teams in solving data‑related issues and enabling data-driven decision-making.
- Contribute to solution design, documentation, testing and handover processes across the data engineering lifecycle.
This position is based in Perth on a 12-month fixed-term basis.
About You
You’re a collaborative and solutions‑focused data engineer who thrives in a cloud‑based, agile environment. You bring strong technical expertise across modern data platforms, paired with the ability to communicate effectively, manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality data products that support meaningful business outcomes.
Ideally, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud data technologies, ideally across AWS, Snowflake, DBT Cloud or similar platforms.
- Strong data modelling capability with hands‑on skills in schema design, data management and building consumable data products.
- Advanced database development skills, including SQL and performance optimisation.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL and/or PySpark, plus familiarity with DevOps tools and version control.
- Highly developed communication, collaboration and workload‑management skills in a fast‑paced, agile environment.
